Designed to acquaint pre-service teachers with the teaching of middle grades language arts. Provides a knowledge base and experience to enhance literacy instruction through the integration of reading, writing, listening, speaking, and thinking. This course addresses the use of appropriate strategies and materials used in teaching English to diverse students in grades 4-8. To be taken concurrently with EM 460. Prerequisite: EM300
